Song genesis

Discovered a cool four bar midi riff within Quarkstar’s song April. Slightly tweaked the midi pattern and used it to drive three soft synths in sync with the beat. The next discovery was that the vocal hook in Kyle Monroe’s a cappella Move fit well over Quarkstar’s midi riff, so we built and recorded a song motivated by these two parts.

Discovered that one part of Kyle’s vocal fit well over Admiral Bob’s drum loops from Cm_105-bpm. Then we discovered that using two of the Admiral’s tracks with one track shifted one beat to the left worked mo’ better. However, there was Latin percussion in the drum loop that sounded unhappy in the mix and there was no easy way to edit out the unwanted sounds. Layering drum samples from Nickleus, myfreemickey, Javolenus and Coruscate, we replaced all of the Admiral’s kick, snare and hihat hits save one type of hihat hit that we were able to reuse.

Discovered that the vocal verses and intro fit well over Javolenus’ drum loop Cm124-Funky Groove. Left this drum loop intact except for pitch correcting the tonal parts of the drum hits for greater happiness in C minor. We added a second La Rock drum track during vocal verse and backbeat samples using a snare from myfreemickey and dustbin bucket hit.

Discovered that 700P3D had an LFO bass sample that well carried the mid-song break with ElRon and added depth to the intro and vocal verses.
